Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Balasubramaniam Salai, Peravallur

If you operate in Peravallur, GST deadlines arrive with the same force as anywhere in Chennai — GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th. Peravallur runs between Paper Mills Road, Constable Road and the 70 Feet Road, a belt of job work machine shops, welding and powder coating units, timber and hardware yards and lorry booking offices feeding Perambur Loco Works. GKM Colony, SRP Colony and Periyar Nagar add provision stores and rented godowns off Venkatesan Road and Karthikeyan Road. Job work challans under ITC-04, unregistered labour on reverse charge and e-way bills for short hauls are the recurring headaches. We provide New GST Registration to businesses across Peravallur and the adjoining Perambur and Kolathur localities, maintaining a compliance calendar for every client so due dates are met without last-minute panic, late fees or interest at 18 percent per annum.

GST jurisdiction for Peravallur (PIN 600082): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Peravallur before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST Compliance for Retail Shops in Peravallur
A retail counter bills hundreds of small consumer sales a day, and GST treats them very differently from B2B trade. B2C turnover goes into GSTR-1 as consolidated rate-wise figures, exempt goods need a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice, and a mixed basket of taxable and exempt stock forces proportionate credit reversal under Rule 42. Departments now compare UPI and card settlements against declared turnover, so daily sales must reconcile with bank inflows. A specialist sets up your billing software with a verified HSN and rate master, evaluates the one percent composition option against regular filing, and keeps declared figures consistent before any mismatch query arrives.
After New GST Registration is filed, support continues — acknowledgements are archived, upcoming due dates are tracked, and any departmental query on the work is answered, all within fees starting at Rs.1,499 in Peravallur.
Why Us

Why Balasubramaniam Salai, Peravallur Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Composition Scheme Compliance Without Slips

Composition dealers have their own rulebook — CMP-08 every quarter, GSTR-4 annually by 30 June, bills of supply instead of tax invoices, and a turnover ceiling that must be watched. We handle each of these correctly so the scheme's simplicity never turns into a violation.

Job Work Movements Tracked Through ITC-04

Goods sent to job workers must move on delivery challans, return within the statutory period, and be reported in ITC-04. We track every outward and return leg for manufacturing clients in Peravallur, so inputs sent out for processing never quietly convert into a deemed supply carrying tax and interest.

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

Experience Across Trades and Sectors

Traders, manufacturers, contractors, e-commerce sellers, professionals and service exporters — we have handled GST for all of them. Whatever mix of goods and services your Peravallur business supplies, the rate, classification and place-of-supply questions have almost certainly crossed our desk before.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

How It Works

Our GST Registration Process

Document collection

You share PAN, Aadhaar, photographs, address proof and bank details over WhatsApp or email. We review each document against portal requirements and flag anything that could trigger an officer query.

Application preparation

We draft Form GST REG-01 with the correct business constitution, principal place of business, HSN or SAC codes and authorised signatory details, then share a summary for your confirmation.

Filing and Aadhaar authentication

The application is filed on the GST portal and we guide the authorised signatory through Aadhaar OTP authentication, which speeds up approval and usually avoids physical verification of premises.

Query handling

We track the ARN daily. If the officer issues a notice in Form REG-03 seeking clarification, we draft and file the reply in Form REG-04 within the permitted time.

GSTIN delivery and handover

Once approved, we download your registration certificate in Form REG-06, help set up portal login credentials, and brief you on invoice format, return due dates and e-way bill obligations.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Notices Answered Within the Time Limit

Statutory windows such as thirty days for an ASMT-11 reply are tracked from the day a notice arrives, so responses go in on time, complete, and with your best case properly presented.

A Professional Face on Every Invoice

Correct, complete tax invoices signal a well-run business to customers, vendors and banks alike, quietly strengthening your credibility in every transaction where your paperwork is seen.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Lower Total Cost of Compliance

A fixed professional fee is almost always cheaper than the combination of late fees, interest, lost credit and staff hours that informal, last-minute compliance quietly accumulates over a year.

Marketplace Accounts That Stay Live

E-commerce platforms continuously validate seller GSTINs and filing status. A consistently compliant registration keeps your listings active and settlements flowing, with no sudden suspension of your online sales channel.

No More Late Fees

With returns filed ahead of the statutory due dates every period, the Rs.50-per-day GSTR-3B late fee simply stops appearing in your life, and the money stays in your business where it belongs.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Time costRoughly an hour a month to send data and approve drafts; the portal work, reconciliation and follow-up are ours.Hours every month lost to portal errors, JSON files, OTP failures and reworking figures — usually on the due date itself.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.

GST Council

Millet flour preparations exempted or cut to 5 per cent; molasses reduced from 28 to 5 per cent

52nd GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 7 October 2023 · 2023-10-07

The Council recommended nil GST on food preparation of millet flour in powder form containing at least 70 per cent millets by weight when sold loose, and 5 per cent when pre-packaged and labelled. GST on molasses was slashed from 28 per cent to 5 per cent to benefit sugarcane farmers and reduce cattle feed costs. The Council also clarified that job work services of converting barley into malt attract the concessional 5 per cent rate applicable to job work in relation to food products, and not 18 per cent.

How we apply it: Food processors and cattle-feed traders in Tamil Nadu gained significant input cost relief and needed to re-price millet-based products.

AAR Ruling

Carbonated fruit drinks classified as carbonated beverages, not fruit juice drinks

Rich Dairy Products (India) Pvt Ltd - AAR Tamil Nadu (2019), upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/01/2020 · 2019

The Namakkal manufacturer made carbonated beverages containing fruit juice and sought classification under the fruit pulp or fruit juice based drinks entry taxed at 12 percent. The Authority held that once carbon dioxide is added the product is classifiable under heading 2202 10 as waters containing added carbon dioxide and flavouring, and not as fruit juice under heading 2009, so the higher rate applicable to that entry along with compensation cess applies. The Appellate Authority upheld that view.

Why this matters: Chennai beverage makers must check whether the drink is carbonated before applying the 12 percent fruit drink rate.

Circular

Hospital room rent, patient food and doctors' retention money clarified

Circular No. 32/06/2018-GST dated 12.02.2018 · 2018-02-12

This early circular resolved several healthcare and accommodation questions. It clarified that room rent charged by a hospital to an in-patient and food supplied to admitted patients as advised by the doctor form part of exempt composite healthcare services, while food sold to attendants and visitors is taxable. It also clarified that where a hospital engages senior consultants and retains a share of their fees, the entire consideration charged to the patient is exempt healthcare service. Separately it dealt with hostel accommodation below the then exemption threshold.

What to do about it: Chennai hospitals should keep patient billing separate from cafeteria and visitor sales, because only the patient-facing package enjoys the healthcare exemption.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

What is the process for new GST registration?
The process runs in clear stages: Document collection; Application preparation; Filing and Aadhaar authentication; Query handling. A senior consultant reviews your file at each stage rather than passing it to a data-entry desk, and you receive a confirmation with the filed documents once it is complete. You always know which stage your work is at — we update you on WhatsApp instead of leaving you to follow up.
Which GST office handles Peravallur businesses?
Businesses in Peravallur (PIN 600082) generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
I sell only loose, unbranded grains and fresh vegetables. Do I need GST registration at all?
No. Under Section 23 of the CGST Act, a person engaged exclusively in supplying goods that are wholly exempt from tax is not liable to register, regardless of turnover. A trader in Peravallur dealing only in loose cereals, pulses sold unpackaged, fresh fruits and vegetables therefore stays outside GST entirely. The position changes the day you add even one taxable line, such as pre-packaged branded packs, edible oil or packaged snacks; from then on the normal threshold rules apply to your aggregate turnover, which counts the exempt sales too. Review your product mix once a year, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a quick applicability check.
I billed customers while my GST registration was being processed. What is a revised invoice?
Registration takes effect from the date you became liable, but your GSTIN arrives only when the certificate is issued. For supplies made between the effective date of registration and the date the certificate was granted, Rule 53 allows you to issue revised invoices against the original bills, within one month from the date of issuance of the certificate. The revised invoice carries your GSTIN, is marked as a revised invoice, and references the original invoice number and date. This lets your registered buyers in Peravallur claim input credit for that interim period. A consolidated revised invoice is permitted for unregistered buyers within a state.
Is Aadhaar authentication compulsory for GST registration?
Aadhaar authentication is not compulsory, but it is strongly recommended. When the promoter and authorised signatory complete Aadhaar OTP authentication, the application is processed on the fast track and deemed approval applies if the officer does not act within seven working days. Without Aadhaar authentication, the department treats the application as higher risk, physical verification of the business premises is usually ordered, and approval can take up to thirty days. Most applicants in Peravallur finish the OTP step in minutes, so there is rarely a reason to skip it unless the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is inactive.
I am a doctor running my own clinic. Do I need GST registration at all?
If your entire income consists of exempt healthcare services, no. Section 23 provides that a person engaged exclusively in supplying exempt goods or services is not liable to registration, irrespective of turnover, so a practitioner earning even Rs.1 crore purely from consultations and treatment need not register. The position changes the moment taxable income enters the same PAN, such as commercial property rent, pharmacy sales to outpatients, aesthetic procedures or paid webinars for a company; then the normal Rs.20 lakh aggregate threshold applies, counting the exempt receipts too. Many doctors in Peravallur cross the line through rental income without noticing.
I just received my GSTIN. What returns do I need to start filing?
From your first tax period, a regular taxpayer files GSTR-1, the outward supplies statement, by the 11th of the following month, and GSTR-3B, the summary return with tax payment, by the 20th. If your expected turnover is up to Rs.5 crore, you can opt for the QRMP scheme: returns become quarterly, GSTR-3B is due by the 22nd of the month after the quarter for Tamil Nadu, monthly tax is paid by challan, and the optional IFF by the 13th lets you pass credit to buyers monthly. Returns are mandatory even for nil turnover; the nil late fee is Rs.20 per day. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will set up your filing calendar.
I am below the GST threshold, but I pay freight under RCM heads. Must I register?
Section 24(iii) makes registration compulsory for persons required to pay tax under reverse charge, without any threshold benefit. So if you receive notified supplies such as GTA freight, advocate services or sponsorship, liability to register can arise even with modest turnover. Note, though, that where the relevant RCM entry itself exempts supplies made to unregistered recipients, no liability arises until you are otherwise registered. Composition dealers get no relief once registered: they must pay RCM at the full normal rates in cash and cannot claim any credit, making RCM a pure cost for them. Have your expense heads reviewed before assuming you are safe; call +91 - 9600 606 444.
What are the GST rates on silver articles, diamonds and gold coins?
Silver and articles of silver, like gold, attract 3% GST, and so do gold and silver coins. Cut and polished diamonds attract 1.5%, while rough diamonds are taxed at 0.25%. Imitation jewellery attracts 3%. For a jewellery showroom this means the rate master must distinguish metal-based items at 3%, the diamond component where separately dealt with, and making charges at 5% when billed as a service. Precious metal rates were deliberately left untouched in the September 2025 rationalisation. If you also trade bullion between dealers, keep HSN-wise records clean, since bullion movements draw departmental attention. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for guidance.
What is the GST rate on mobile phones and accessories at my shop?
Mobile phones attract 18% GST, a rate unchanged by the September 2025 rationalisation. Common accessories, including chargers, power banks, earphones, cases and tempered glass, also generally attract 18% under their respective headings, so a typical mobile retail counter in Peravallur operates almost entirely at one rate. Note that phones bought from out-of-state distributors carry IGST, which is fully creditable against your local sales. Where you also take old phones in exchange, remember GST applies on the full sale price of the new phone, not the net amount collected after exchange. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 if your billing needs a once-over.
Where exactly on the GST portal do I file a core field amendment, and what happens after submission?
Log in and go to Services, then Registration, then Amendment of Registration Core Fields. The editable tabs cover business details, principal place of business, additional places and promoter or partner details; open the relevant tab, make the change, and enter the reason and date of amendment in the boxes provided, attaching supporting documents within the portal's size limits. Move to the Verification tab, select the authorised signatory and place, and submit with DSC or EVC. An ARN is generated, the application lands in your jurisdictional officer's queue, and its progress is visible under Track Application Status until approval.
My GST status shows suspended. What does that mean for my business in Peravallur?
Suspension is an intermediate state that occurs when you apply for cancellation, or when the officer initiates cancellation proceedings, commonly for return defaults or data mismatches. While suspended, you cannot make taxable supplies, meaning you should not issue tax invoices or charge GST, and e-way bill generation is blocked. The fix depends on the cause: if you triggered it by applying for cancellation, await the order; if the department triggered it, reply to the show cause notice in REG-18 within seven working days and clear pending returns. Acting within the notice window usually gets the suspension lifted; call +91 - 9600 606 444 if you have received one.
How much time do I get to raise an invoice for services?
A tax invoice for services must be issued within thirty days from the date of supply of the service. For banks, insurers, financial institutions and NBFCs, the limit is forty-five days. Where services are supplied continuously, the invoice follows the contract: if the due date of payment is ascertainable, invoice on or before that date; if not, invoice when payment is received; and if payment is linked to completion of an event or milestone, invoice on or before its completion. Consultants and agencies that bill quarterly should check their contracts against these rules, since late invoicing defers nothing legally.
How do I track the status of a grievance ticket or any ARN I have on the GST portal?
For grievance tickets, open selfservice.gstsystem.in and use Check Status by entering the ticket reference number; the screen shows whether it is open, under processing or resolved, with the resolution comments. For applications filed on the main portal, log in and use Services, then Track Application Status, choosing the module and entering the ARN, or open My Applications to see every application with its case detail folder, notices and replies in one place. Diarise every ARN the day it is generated, because reply windows run from portal timestamps. ChennaiGST maintains an ARN tracker for every client engagement.
Does buying from unregistered dealers attract reverse charge for everyone?
No. The general reverse charge on all unregistered purchases under Section 9(4) was never fully implemented and now applies only to notified classes, principally real estate. A promoter must procure at least eighty percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers for a project; on any shortfall, the promoter pays 18 percent under RCM, and cement purchased from an unregistered dealer attracts RCM at the rate applicable to cement, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation reduced it from 28 percent, irrespective of the eighty percent test. Transfer of development rights and long-term leases to promoters are also covered. An ordinary trader or service provider in Peravallur buying stationery from an unregistered shop has no Section 9(4) liability at all.
What is the GST rate for restaurants and food delivery now?
Standalone restaurants, eateries and cloud kitchens charge 5 percent GST without input tax credit. Restaurants located in hotels where the room tariff exceeds Rs.7,500 per day fall in the specified premises category and charge 18 percent with input tax credit. Food ordered through e-commerce operators such as Swiggy and Zomato is taxed at 5 percent, with the platform liable to pay the tax on restaurant services supplied through it. A restaurant in Peravallur paying 5 percent must remember that GST on its rent, gas and equipment purchases becomes a cost, since credit is barred.
Do I have to issue an invoice for every small cash sale in my shop?
Not necessarily. Where the value of a supply is less than Rs.200, the buyer is unregistered, and the buyer does not ask for an invoice, you may skip issuing an individual tax invoice. Instead, you must prepare one consolidated tax invoice at the close of each day covering all such small sales. The moment a customer demands an invoice, or the sale is Rs.200 or more, a proper invoice is required. Retail counters typically issue system receipts to every customer anyway, which is cleaner practice, but the daily consolidated invoice is the legal minimum for petty sales.
Can you give me a simple GST due-date calendar for my business?
For monthly filers: GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the next month. Under QRMP: optional IFF by the 13th of the next month, PMT-06 payment by the 25th, quarterly GSTR-1 by the 13th and GSTR-3B by the 22nd (Tamil Nadu) after the quarter. Composition dealers pay via CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter and file GSTR-4 annually by 30 June. GSTR-7 and GSTR-8 are due on the 10th, and GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C by 31 December. Clients in Peravallur receive our reminder messages before every date.
Do you provide new gst registration for small businesses and proprietorships in Peravallur?
Yes. A large share of our clients in Peravallur are proprietors, small traders, shop owners, freelancers and family businesses rather than large companies. The fee of Rs.1,499 and the process are the same regardless of size, and we explain the compliance position in plain language — in Tamil or English — so you understand what is being filed on your behalf and why.
Are there any hidden charges for new GST registration?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
How much does new GST registration cost in Peravallur?
Our fee for new GST registration in Peravallur starts at Rs.1,499 and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later.
