Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Adam Sahib Street, Royapuram

Every locality in Chennai has its own commercial rhythm, and Royapuram is no exception. Royapuram lives off the sea and the port: the Kasimedu fishing harbour drives seafood traders, processors and exporters, while Cochrane Basin Road and Thiruvottiyur High Road host logistics yards, cold storages and marine hardware suppliers. Seafood exporters here must keep the LUT under RFD-11 renewed every financial year and chase RFD-01 refunds within the two-year window, which is the area's biggest GST task. Our practice has shaped its GST Notice Reply work around exactly these realities, serving clients in Royapuram as well as Tondiarpet and Old Washermanpet. Registrations, returns, refunds and notice replies are handled by one accountable team, with fees fixed in writing before work begins and every filing reconciled against portal data before it is submitted.

GST jurisdiction for Royapuram (PIN 600013): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Royapuram before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Manufacturers in Royapuram
Manufacturing compliance revolves around movement documents. Inputs sent to job workers must travel on Rule 45 delivery challans and return within one year, or three years for capital goods, failing which the original dispatch is treated as a supply with tax and interest. These movements are reported in Form ITC-04, half-yearly for turnover above Rs.5 crore and annually below it. Credit on machinery follows the capital goods rules, waste and scrap sales are fully taxable, and production-to-turnover ratios are a favourite audit test. A specialist keeps the challan register, ITC-04 filings and scrap invoicing aligned so a factory audit finds a closed loop, not loose ends.
To get GST Notice Reply in Royapuram, share your documents by WhatsApp or visit the office, approve the prepared draft, and the filing is completed on the GST portal from Rs.2,999.
Why Us

Why Adam Sahib Street, Royapuram Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Support Through Audits and Hearings

When an ADT-01 audit intimation or a personal hearing date arrives, we compile the records, prepare the reconciliations and draft the submissions, and coordinate closely with your authorised representative. You walk into the proceeding prepared, not improvising in front of an officer.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

We Work with Your Existing Software

Tally, Zoho Books, Busy, marketplace reports, plain Excel or even a handwritten bill book — we take your data in whatever form your Royapuram business already maintains it. You are never forced to buy new software or retrain staff just to become our client.

Advisory, Not Just Data Entry

We tell you when the composition scheme stops making sense, when QRMP suits your cash flow, and when a supplier's non-compliance is quietly costing you credit. Filing is the minimum; helping you make better GST decisions is the actual job.

E-Invoice and E-Way Bill Fluency

E-invoicing is mandatory once turnover crosses Rs.5 crore and e-way bills apply to goods movements above Rs.50,000. We set up, train and troubleshoot both systems, so your despatches from Royapuram are never held up by a compliance gap at the gate.

Deadline Tracking Done for You

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, CMP-08 by the 18th after each quarter — we maintain a compliance calendar for every client and start chasing your data well before the due date, so late fees never enter the picture.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Time Back for Your Actual Business

The hours you or your accountant spent wrestling with the portal, JSON errors and reconciliations every month return to sales, operations and customers, while trained hands manage the compliance in the background.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

No More Late Fees

With returns filed ahead of the statutory due dates every period, the Rs.50-per-day GSTR-3B late fee simply stops appearing in your life, and the money stays in your business where it belongs.

Peace of Mind Around Due Dates

The 11th and the 20th stop being days of dread. You approve a prepared draft, we file, and the acknowledgement lands on your WhatsApp — month after month, without drama.

Goods That Move Without Detention

Correct e-way bills matched to correct invoices mean your consignments clear roadside inspections cleanly, avoiding detention proceedings whose penalties can far exceed the tax on the goods being carried.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.

GST Council

Cancer drugs cut to 5 per cent; namkeens and savoury snacks cut to 12 per cent

54th GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 9 September 2024 · 2024-09-09

The Council reduced GST on three cancer drugs — Trastuzumab Deruxtecan, Osimertinib and Durvalumab — from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Extruded or expanded savoury snacks and namkeens were cut from 18 per cent to 12 per cent prospectively, aligning them with similar ready-to-eat namkeens, while un-fried snack pellets stayed at 5 per cent. The Council also brought roof-mounted package unit (RMPU) air conditioning machines for railways under 28 per cent and moved car seats from 18 per cent to 28 per cent.

Why this matters: Snack manufacturers and distributors in Chennai should apply 12 per cent prospectively from the notification date, keeping evidence of the cut-off for past-period disputes.

AAR Ruling

Ready to cook idli, dosa and porridge mixes taxable at 18 percent

Krishna Bhavan Foods and Sweets - AAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/24/AAR/2021, dated 18 June 2021, upheld by AAAR Tamil Nadu, Order No. TN/AAAR/02/2022, dated 13 January 2022 · 2021-06-18

The applicant sold packaged ready to cook instant mixes for dosai, idli, tiffin items, sweets, health mix and porridge. It argued that these were only flours of cereals and pulses taxable at 5 percent. The Authority classified the products under heading 2106 90 as food preparations not elsewhere specified, attracting 18 percent GST, because the mixing and added ingredients took them out of the concessional flour entries. The Appellate Authority upheld that classification.

Practical effect: Chennai food manufacturers selling instant mixes should confirm whether the product is a plain flour or a preparation before applying 5 percent.

Notification

Handicrafts re-notified at 5 per cent, with silver filigree and imitation jewellery at 3 per cent

Notification No. 13/2025-Central Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025 · 2025-09-17

This notification replaces the entire table in the 2018 handicrafts notification with a fresh list of about thirty-nine entries from 22 September 2025. Most items carry central tax of 2.5 per cent, that is five per cent combined: handcrafted candles, carved and inlaid wood products, wooden frames, art ware of cork and sholapith, vegetable-fibre mats and basketwork, handmade paper, papier mache articles, coir goods, handmade carpets, stone carving, ceramic and glass art ware, brass and copper art ware, wooden toys, hand paintings and original sculptures. Silver filigree work and handmade imitation jewellery, including jewellery of natural seeds and beads, carry 1.5 per cent central tax, that is three per cent combined.

Why this matters: Handicraft retailers in Chennai charge five per cent on the general run of handicraft goods, but must apply three per cent to silver filigree work and handmade imitation jewellery.

The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
Is there a GST consultant near Royapuram for gst notice reply?

An ASMT-13 best judgment order was passed against me. Can it still be nullified by filing the return?
Yes, Section 62 contains a self-correcting mechanism. If you furnish the valid return within sixty days of service of the ASMT-13 assessment order, the order is deemed withdrawn automatically, though late fee and interest remain payable. The Finance Act 2023 added a further cushion effective 1 October 2023: even after the sixty days, you can file the return within an additional sixty days by paying an extra late fee of Rs.100 per day under the CGST Act, with a matching state levy, for each day beyond the first window, and the order still stands withdrawn. Beyond the full one hundred and twenty days, the estimated demand becomes enforceable, leaving appeal as the remedy.
What is the general penalty under Section 125 and when is it imposed?
Section 125 is the residual penalty provision for contraventions of the Act or rules for which no separate penalty is prescribed anywhere else. It can extend to Rs.25,000 under the CGST Act, with a matching penalty under the SGST Act, so the practical exposure is up to Rs.50,000 per contravention. Officers invoke it for procedural lapses such as not displaying the registration certificate, minor documentation errors during transit, or failure to furnish information called for. Because the amount is discretionary, a reasoned reply showing the breach was technical and without revenue loss often brings the figure down substantially.
What happens if I ignore a GSTR-3A notice from the GST department?
If the return is not filed within fifteen days, the officer can complete a best judgment assessment under Section 62 and pass an order in Form ASMT-13, estimating your liability from GSTR-1 data, e-way bills and bank information. Such estimates are usually far higher than the actual dues. The assessment is deemed withdrawn if you file the valid return within sixty days of the order, on payment of late fee and interest. Beyond that, the demand becomes recoverable. Several traders in Royapuram have faced bank account attachment for ignored GSTR-3A notices, so act within the fifteen-day window.
What is compounding of offences under GST and how much does it cost?
Compounding under Section 138 lets an accused settle a criminal prosecution by paying a compounding amount, after which no further criminal proceedings are initiated and any pending prosecution abates. It is available either before or after the institution of prosecution, but only after the tax, interest and penalty involved have been paid. Following the Finance Act 2023, the compounding amount ranges between 25 percent and 100 percent of the tax involved, substantially lower than the earlier slabs. The application is made in Form CPD-01 to the Commissioner, who passes an order in CPD-02 within ninety days. Compounding buys certainty; it does not erase the civil demand.
How can I verify whether a GST notice I received is genuine or fake?
Every communication from a central GST officer must carry a Document Identification Number (DIN), which you can verify on the CBIC website. Notices issued through the GST portal carry a Reference Number that can be checked after logging in, and a genuine notice will also appear in your View Notices and Orders or View Additional Notices and Orders tab. As per CBIC instructions, a communication without a DIN is treated as invalid. Be cautious of demands received only on WhatsApp or email asking for payment to personal accounts. If in doubt, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify the document before you respond.
Can a GST officer arrest a businessman, and what safeguards exist?
Yes, but only within defined limits. Under Section 69, the Commissioner must record reasons to believe that a person has committed one of the serious specified offences, chiefly fake invoicing and evasion beyond the prosecution thresholds, before authorising arrest. For cognizable, non-bailable cases, the person must be produced before a Magistrate within twenty-four hours; for bailable offences, the Deputy or Assistant Commissioner can grant bail. Departmental instructions require that arrest is not routine and must be justified by factors like flight risk or evidence tampering. If summons in a Royapuram investigation escalate toward arrest talk, engage counsel immediately; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for coordination.
What documents do GST audit officers usually ask for?
Expect to produce the GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9 filings for the audit years, audited financial statements, trial balance, sales and purchase registers, ITC ledgers with supplier-wise detail, fixed asset register, e-way bill data, bank statements, key customer and vendor agreements, stock records and reconciliations between books and returns. Officers in Tamil Nadu commonly probe ITC on blocked credits under Section 17(5), reverse charge compliance, classification and rate issues, and turnover differences with income tax filings. Preparing a reconciliation file before submission lets you spot and voluntarily correct issues through DRC-03, which is far cheaper than an audit objection. ChennaiGST builds this file for Royapuram clients.
I received a DRC-01 notice for ITC mismatch between GSTR-3B and GSTR-2A. How do I defend it?
Start with a supplier-wise reconciliation identifying why each credit is missing from GSTR-2A, such as the supplier filing late, quoting a wrong GSTIN or reporting B2B supplies as B2C. For FY 2017-18 and 2018-19, CBIC Circular 183/15/2022 permits proving genuine credits through supplier certificates or CA certificates, which resolves many Royapuram cases. Attach tax invoices, payment proofs and ledger extracts to your DRC-06 reply to establish that the conditions of Section 16 were met. Where a supplier has genuinely defaulted, quantify and pay only that portion through DRC-03 rather than conceding the entire demand.
What discrepancies usually trigger a GST scrutiny notice?
The frequent triggers are: tax declared in GSTR-1 exceeding tax paid in GSTR-3B; ITC claimed in GSTR-3B exceeding credit available in GSTR-2A or GSTR-2B; e-way bill turnover higher than reported outward supplies; missing reverse charge payments on transport, legal or import services; ITC not reversed on exempt supplies under Rules 42 and 43; and mismatches with TDS credits reported by government deductors in GSTR-7. Most of these are explainable through timing differences, credit notes or amendments, provided the reply maps each rupee of difference. An annual reconciliation habit prevents the majority of these notices for Royapuram businesses.
Is the late fee charged on delayed returns the same thing as a penalty?
No, they are legally distinct. Late fee under Section 47 is an automatic, fixed daily charge for filing a return after its due date, computed by the portal and payable in cash before the return is accepted; no officer discretion or notice is involved. Penalty, under provisions such as Sections 122 to 125, is imposed through adjudication for specified offences, requires a show cause notice and hearing, and can be contested or reduced. Interest under Section 50 is a third, separate levy compensating for delayed payment. A delayed return with tax due can therefore attract all three simultaneously, each on its own footing.
What are the GST rates on gold, silver and diamond jewellery?
The special rates on precious metals were retained in the GST 2.0 restructuring. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery attract 3 percent GST, rough and unworked diamonds attract 0.25 percent, and jewellery making charges billed separately attract 5 percent. When a jeweller bills a customer, the metal value and making charges can appear as separate line items with their respective rates on the same tax invoice. Old gold purchased from an unregistered customer in exchange transactions does not attract GST in the customer's hands, but valuation of the net supply must be documented carefully.
Can one document cover both taxable and exempt items sold together?
Yes, in one specific situation. Rule 46A permits a registered person supplying both taxable and exempt goods or services to an unregistered recipient to issue a single invoice-cum-bill of supply covering the entire transaction. This saves retail counters from splitting every mixed basket into two documents. The concession applies only when the buyer is unregistered; for a registered buyer, you must still issue a tax invoice for the taxable items and a separate bill of supply for the exempt items. Supermarkets and pharmacies with mixed inventories use this format daily, and billing software handles the split automatically once configured.
My shop's landlord in Royapuram is not GST registered. Do I pay GST on the rent myself?
Yes, if you are registered. With effect from 10 October 2024, renting of any immovable property other than a residential dwelling by an unregistered person to a registered person was notified under reverse charge, so a registered tenant must pay 18 percent on the rent in cash through GSTR-3B and can claim ITC subject to the usual conditions. Composition taxpayers were subsequently excluded from this entry with effect from 16 January 2025. You must also raise a monthly self-invoice since the landlord is unregistered. Many shop and godown tenants in Royapuram remain unaware of this recent entry; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to regularise past months.
How is the place of supply decided when I sell goods?
Section 10 of the IGST Act gives the tests. Where the sale involves movement of goods, the place of supply is the location where the movement terminates for delivery to the recipient, whoever arranges the transport. Where there is no movement, it is the location of the goods at the time of delivery, which covers over-the-counter sales and sales of installed machinery in place. Where goods are assembled or installed at site, the place of supply is the site of installation. Getting this right decides whether you charge CGST plus SGST or IGST, and a Royapuram seller delivering to a Bengaluru buyer charges IGST because delivery terminates in Karnataka.
How do I round off tax amounts on a GST invoice?
Section 170 of the CGST Act prescribes normal rounding to the nearest rupee: where the tax contains a part of a rupee, fifty paise or more is rounded up to one rupee, and less than fifty paise is ignored. The rounding is applied to the tax amount on each invoice, separately for each tax head, so CGST and SGST are each rounded individually rather than rounding only the invoice total. Most billing software handles this automatically, but spreadsheets and manual bills often round the grand total instead, creating one-rupee mismatches that clutter reconciliations across thousands of invoices.
What are the rules for numbering GST invoices?
The invoice serial number must be consecutive, must not exceed sixteen characters, and may contain alphabets, numerals and the special characters hyphen and slash, in one or multiple series. Each number must be unique for a financial year, so most businesses restart their series every April with a year prefix such as 2026-27/001. Gaps in a series invite questions during audit because officers may suspect unreported invoices, and cancelled invoice numbers should be retained in records with the cancelled copy. The document series you use must also be declared in Table 13 of GSTR-1 each period.
How long does GST notice reply take in Royapuram?
Draft reply in 3-5 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.
Can I get GST notice reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Royapuram regularly complete notice reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
What documents are required for GST notice reply in Royapuram?
For GST notice reply you will generally need: Copy of the notice received, with its reference number and date, GST portal login credentials, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filed copies for the periods in question, GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B data for the relevant periods, Sales and purchase registers for the periods covered. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.
