Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for 3rd Street, Korukkupet

GST does not distinguish between a large showroom and a small service unit — the due dates and matching systems apply equally to both. Korukkupet is defined by the oil marketing company terminals off Thiruvottiyur High Road and Ennore High Road, the Korukkupet goods shed and the Cochrane Basin Road level crossing. Tanker fleet owners, terminal contractors, clearing agents and the Kalmandapam Road trading rows work around petroleum products staying outside GST, blocked input credit on such supplies, and reverse charge on inward goods transport. That is why our GST Notice Reply engagements in Korukkupet follow the same discipline whatever the client's size: written checklists, reconciliation before filing and every acknowledgement archived. Businesses from Old Washermanpet and Tondiarpet run on the same process, entirely over WhatsApp if they prefer.

GST jurisdiction for Korukkupet (PIN 600021): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Korukkupet before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for Hospitals and Clinics in Korukkupet
Healthcare services by clinical establishments and doctors are exempt, but a clinic in Korukkupet rarely earns exempt income alone. Pharmacy sales to outpatients, implants billed separately, and cosmetic or aesthetic procedures undertaken for appearance rather than treatment are all taxable, and room charges above Rs.5,000 per day for non-ICU rooms attract 5 percent without credit. Exempt receipts still count towards aggregate turnover, so a hospital with a busy pharmacy can need registration despite mostly exempt revenue. A specialist separates the taxable streams, applies Rule 42 reversals on common expenses like housekeeping and equipment maintenance, and keeps the exemption for core treatment intact.
Urgent GST Notice Reply in Korukkupet is handled on priority — expiring deadlines, suspended registrations and notice replies are taken up the same working day, with fixed professional fees starting at Rs.2,999.
Why Us

Why 3rd Street, Korukkupet Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Same-Day Response, Every Working Day

Send your query on call or WhatsApp and you hear back the same working day, usually within a few hours. When a due date is close or a notice has landed, waiting two days for a reply is simply not acceptable, and we know it.

ITC Maximisation Within the Law

We match your purchase register against GSTR-2B every period, follow up on invoices your suppliers have not uploaded, and ensure every rupee of eligible input tax credit is claimed. Clients routinely recover credit they were silently losing under self-filing.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

Every Return Reviewed by a Senior Consultant

No filing leaves our desk on a junior's judgement alone. A senior GST practitioner reviews your figures, ITC claims and tax computation before submission, so errors are caught at our table and not by the department months later through a notice.

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Bank and Tender Readiness

Loan applications and government tenders routinely demand GST returns and registration documents. With everything filed and archived properly, you can produce a complete compliance file within hours instead of days.

Fewer Errors at the Billing Counter

Your billing staff are guided on invoice fields, rates and series discipline, so mistakes are prevented where they originate — at the counter — instead of being repaired later in the returns.

Stronger Standing with Corporate Buyers

Large buyers check vendor GST compliance before releasing payments and renewing contracts. A clean filing record with timely GSTR-1 uploads keeps your invoices reflecting in their GSTR-2B and your payments unblocked.

Smooth Scheme Transitions

Whether moving between composition and regular scheme, opting into QRMP, or crossing the e-invoice threshold at Rs.5 crore, transitions are planned in advance rather than discovered after a compliance breach.

Fewer Departmental Notices

Consistent, reconciled returns give the department's matching systems nothing to flag. Clients who move to us after years of self-filing typically see scrutiny queries and mismatch notices fall away within a few filing cycles.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Input tax creditPurchase register matched against GSTR-2B each period, with defaulting suppliers chased so eligible credit is actually captured.Credit claimed from books alone; mismatches with GSTR-2B mean lost credit or excess claims that invite departmental queries.
Annual return preparationMonthly reconciliations roll naturally into GSTR-9, filed comfortably before 31 December with figures already agreed through the year.Twelve months of unmatched data reconstructed in December, with differences discovered too late to be corrected cleanly.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
When a notice arrivesA professional drafts the reply in the department's format and files it within the statutory window, such as thirty days for ASMT-11.You face departmental language alone, and a missed reply deadline can convert a simple query into a demand with penalty.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.

Case Law

Supreme Court applies the doctrine of mutuality to exempt clubs supplying members

State of West Bengal v. Calcutta Club Ltd — Supreme Court, (2019) 19 SCC 107, judgment dated 03-10-2019 · 2019-10-03

The Supreme Court held that the doctrine of mutuality survived the Forty-sixth Constitutional Amendment. Supplies of food, drink and services by an incorporated members' club to its own members are not a sale or a service to another person, so sales tax and service tax could not be levied. Note that GST law was later amended, with retrospective effect from 1 July 2017, to specifically tax supplies between a club or association and its members.

Practical effect: Chennai clubs, associations and resident welfare bodies cannot rely on mutuality under GST any longer, as the law was amended to override this ruling.

Portal Advisory

Officers must give written grounds of arrest before arresting under GST

CBIC Instruction No. 01/2025-GST · 2025-01-13

Following High Court rulings on the constitutional requirement to inform an arrested person of the grounds of arrest, CBIC revised its arrest guidelines. The grounds of arrest must be explained and furnished in writing to the person as an annexure to the arrest memo, and written acknowledgement of receipt must be obtained. This supplements the earlier requirement that arrest be based on reasons to believe recorded in writing, with approval of the Commissioner, and only for offences crossing the prescribed thresholds.

What to do about it: If a summons escalates towards arrest, insist on written grounds of arrest, as their absence has repeatedly led courts to set aside GST arrests.

Circular

Mid-day meal and anganwadi catering treated as exempt

Circular No. 149/05/2021-GST dated 17.06.2021 · 2021-06-17

CBIC clarified that serving food in schools under the mid-day meal programme is exempt from GST, and that the exemption extends to pre-schools and anganwadis, which are covered within the meaning of an educational institution providing pre-school education. It further clarified that the exemption applies whether the meals are funded by government grants or by corporate donations, since the entry does not distinguish by source of funding. The clarification protected non-profit caterers running school feeding programmes from demands.

What it means for you: Chennai caterers running school or anganwadi meal contracts are exempt, but should keep the scheme documentation on file to answer any scrutiny.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Are there any hidden charges for GST notice reply?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Can I get GST notice reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Korukkupet regularly complete notice reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
I have been charging the wrong GST rate on my invoices. How do I fix it?
The correction depends on the direction of the error. If you charged a higher rate than applicable, the excess tax collected must still be paid to the government under Section 76, or you can issue credit notes to customers within the permitted time and adjust the tax. If you charged a lower rate, the shortfall is your liability: pay the differential tax with interest at 18 percent per annum through your returns or Form DRC-03, and issue debit notes to registered buyers so they can take the additional credit. A rate review after the September 2025 changes is worth doing for every Korukkupet business; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for one.
I got a show cause notice in REG-17 threatening cancellation of my GST registration. What should I do?
Form REG-17 is issued when the officer proposes to cancel your registration, commonly for continuous non-filing of returns, non-existence at the declared premises or wrongful ITC availment. You must reply in Form REG-18 within seven working days and attend the hearing if one is fixed. If the reply satisfies the officer, proceedings are dropped in REG-20; otherwise cancellation is ordered in REG-19. If cancellation happens, you can seek revocation in Form REG-21 within ninety days after filing all pending returns and paying dues. Because cancelled registrations freeze e-way bills and invoicing, treat a REG-17 in Korukkupet as urgent.
The department has provisionally attached my bank account under Section 83. What does that mean?
Section 83 empowers the Commissioner, where he records an opinion that protecting revenue requires it, to provisionally attach property including bank accounts during the pendency of specified proceedings, such as assessment, inspection or demand cases. The attachment order is issued in Form DRC-22 and a copy goes to your bank, which freezes debits. Crucially, the attachment automatically ceases to have effect after one year from the order, and it can be lifted earlier through Form DRC-23 if the Commissioner is satisfied. Courts insist the power is draconian and must be exercised with genuine, recorded reasons, which is a strong ground of challenge in suitable cases.
I received a GSTR-3A notice for not filing my GST returns. What should I do?
GSTR-3A is a system-generated default notice issued under Section 46 when you fail to file a return such as GSTR-3B. You must file the pending return within fifteen days of the notice, along with the tax due, interest at 18 percent per annum and late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 per day for nil returns, both capped with reference to turnover). Once the return is filed within this window, no further action follows. If you have stopped business, apply for cancellation instead of leaving returns pending, because notices will keep coming every month.
Can my GST consultant attend a summons hearing on my behalf in Korukkupet?
Generally no. A summons under Section 70 requires the person named in it to appear personally, because the officer records a statement on oath, and an authorised representative cannot substitute for you unless the officer specifically permits it. What a consultant can do is equally important: prepare a factual brief, reconcile your returns with books, compile the documents demanded, accompany you to the office where allowed, and file written submissions afterwards. Businesses in Korukkupet that walk into a summons unprepared often make admissions that harden into demands later, so invest time in preparation before the appearance date.
How can I verify whether a GST notice I received is genuine or fake?
Every communication from a central GST officer must carry a Document Identification Number (DIN), which you can verify on the CBIC website. Notices issued through the GST portal carry a Reference Number that can be checked after logging in, and a genuine notice will also appear in your View Notices and Orders or View Additional Notices and Orders tab. As per CBIC instructions, a communication without a DIN is treated as invalid. Be cautious of demands received only on WhatsApp or email asking for payment to personal accounts. If in doubt, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify the document before you respond.
How will I be informed of the GST audit findings?
On conclusion of the audit, the officer must inform you of the findings, your rights and obligations, and the reasons for the findings in Form ADT-02 within thirty days. Before that, most audit teams share draft observations and seek your response, which is your best window to knock out weak points with documents. If the audit detects unpaid tax or wrongly availed ITC, you can accept and pay through DRC-03, or contest, in which case the department initiates proceedings under Section 73 or Section 74. Treat the draft objection stage seriously; a strong rebuttal there often prevents a show cause notice altogether.
Can the penalty in a Section 74 fraud case be reduced by paying early?
Yes, Section 74 has a built-in incentive to settle early. If you pay the tax and interest before the show cause notice is issued, the penalty is 15 percent of the tax. If you pay within thirty days of the notice, penalty is 25 percent and the proceedings conclude. Even after the order, paying within thirty days limits penalty to 50 percent instead of 100 percent. Payments are made in DRC-03 with the correct cause selected. Whether to settle or contest depends on the strength of the fraud allegation, so have the notice evaluated professionally before choosing; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for an assessment.
I received a DRC-01 notice for ITC mismatch between GSTR-3B and GSTR-2A. How do I defend it?
Start with a supplier-wise reconciliation identifying why each credit is missing from GSTR-2A, such as the supplier filing late, quoting a wrong GSTIN or reporting B2B supplies as B2C. For FY 2017-18 and 2018-19, CBIC Circular 183/15/2022 permits proving genuine credits through supplier certificates or CA certificates, which resolves many Korukkupet cases. Attach tax invoices, payment proofs and ledger extracts to your DRC-06 reply to establish that the conditions of Section 16 were met. Where a supplier has genuinely defaulted, quantify and pay only that portion through DRC-03 rather than conceding the entire demand.
How do I decide whether to charge CGST plus SGST or IGST on an invoice?
Compare two data points: the location of the supplier and the place of supply determined under the IGST Act. If both fall in the same state, the supply is intra-state and you charge CGST plus SGST; if they fall in different states, it is inter-state and you charge IGST. The buyer's billing address alone is not the test; the place of supply rules for the specific goods or service govern. Common traps include hotel stays, property-linked services and bill-to ship-to chains, where the place of supply departs from the customer's address. Configuring these rules in your billing software saves Korukkupet businesses repeated corrections; call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a setup review.
Does buying from unregistered dealers attract reverse charge for everyone?
No. The general reverse charge on all unregistered purchases under Section 9(4) was never fully implemented and now applies only to notified classes, principally real estate. A promoter must procure at least eighty percent of inputs and input services from registered suppliers for a project; on any shortfall, the promoter pays 18 percent under RCM, and cement purchased from an unregistered dealer attracts RCM at the rate applicable to cement, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation reduced it from 28 percent, irrespective of the eighty percent test. Transfer of development rights and long-term leases to promoters are also covered. An ordinary trader or service provider in Korukkupet buying stationery from an unregistered shop has no Section 9(4) liability at all.
Where is the place of supply for services connected to a building or land?
Services directly relating to immovable property, including those of architects, interior decorators, engineers, surveyors, construction and works contract services, renting, and accommodation in hotels, are supplied where the property is located, under Section 12(3). The recipient's location and registration are irrelevant. So a Korukkupet architect designing a factory in Coimbatore charges CGST plus SGST of Tamil Nadu, but for a project in Kochi the place of supply is Kerala and IGST applies. For hotels, the state where the hotel stands is always the place of supply, which is why accommodation is invariably billed with that state's local taxes regardless of where the guest's business is registered.
What are the GST rates on gold, silver and diamond jewellery?
The special rates on precious metals were retained in the GST 2.0 restructuring. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery attract 3 percent GST, rough and unworked diamonds attract 0.25 percent, and jewellery making charges billed separately attract 5 percent. When a jeweller bills a customer, the metal value and making charges can appear as separate line items with their respective rates on the same tax invoice. Old gold purchased from an unregistered customer in exchange transactions does not attract GST in the customer's hands, but valuation of the net supply must be documented carefully.
Our company paid fees to a lawyer. Who pays the GST on this?
You do, as the recipient. Legal services supplied by an individual advocate, a firm of advocates or a senior advocate to a business entity are notified under Section 9(3), so the advocate does not charge GST and your business pays 18 percent under reverse charge in cash through GSTR-3B, claiming it back as ITC if otherwise eligible. Relief exists for small recipients: legal services to a business entity whose turnover is within the registration threshold are exempt. Since the advocate is usually unregistered, remember to raise a self-invoice and payment voucher for the transaction. Litigation-heavy businesses in Korukkupet should reconcile their legal expense ledger against RCM paid every quarter.
Our small lodge in Korukkupet gets bookings through online travel apps. Who pays the GST?
It depends on your registration status. If the lodge is registered, you charge GST on the accommodation and the platform collects TCS on payments routed through it, which you claim back on the portal. If the lodge is not liable to be registered, the law shifts the liability to the e-commerce operator itself under Section 9(5), so the app pays the tax on accommodation booked through it and the small lodge need not register merely because it lists online. Direct walk-in business remains within your threshold computation. Keep the platform agreements and statements, since they determine who reported the tax.
Can I transfer cash ledger balance from one GSTIN to another GSTIN of the same PAN?
Yes, within limits. Under Section 49(10), unutilised IGST and CGST balances in the electronic cash ledger can be transferred through PMT-09 to the cash ledger of a distinct person, that is, another GSTIN registered on the same PAN in the same or another state. SGST balances cannot be moved across states in this manner. The transfer is not permitted if the transferring GSTIN has any unpaid liability standing in its electronic liability register. Multi-state businesses headquartered in Korukkupet use this to shift idle deposits to the branch that actually needs the cash, avoiding fresh working capital outflow.
How long does GST notice reply take in Korukkupet?
Draft reply in 3-5 working days. That assumes your documents are complete and there is no departmental query. We start the same day we receive your papers and tell you the realistic completion date upfront rather than an optimistic one. Where the GST portal or the officer causes delay — clarifications, physical verification or system issues — we track it daily and keep you informed on WhatsApp.

Which GST office handles Korukkupet businesses?

We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
