Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Koyambedu Fruit Market, Koyambedu

Finding dependable GST Notice Reply in Koyambedu usually means choosing between a distant online portal and an overloaded local accountant. Koyambedu hosts one of Asia's largest perishables markets, the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex, and the CMBT bus terminus, driving trade by vegetable and fruit wholesalers, flower merchants, commission agents and transporters. Fresh produce is largely exempt while packaged and labelled goods are taxable, so mixed supplies, commission income, GTA reverse charge and e-way bills for outstation consignments dominate compliance here. We offer a third option: a professional Chennai GST practice that treats Koyambedu, Arumbakkam and Anna Nagar as home ground, responds the same working day, files ahead of deadlines, and stands behind its work if a notice ever arrives on a return we prepared.

GST jurisdiction for Koyambedu (PIN 600107): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Koyambedu before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST for IT and SaaS Companies in Koyambedu
IT and SaaS services are taxed at 18 percent domestically, but the real complexity is qualifying overseas billing as export under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act: the recipient must be outside India, consideration must arrive in convertible foreign exchange or INR where RBI permits, and the Indian entity and foreign recipient must not be mere establishments of the same person. Marketing or support arms serving a foreign parent risk classification as intermediaries under Section 13(8), making the place of supply India and the income taxable. Supplies to SEZ units are zero-rated with proper endorsements. A specialist structures contracts and invoicing so export status survives departmental scrutiny.
A GST-focused Chennai practice provides GST Notice Reply in Koyambedu with senior review, reconciliation against portal data and written fee quotes from Rs.2,999, rather than template filings from anonymous online portals.
Why Us

Why Koyambedu Fruit Market, Koyambedu Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Ledger Housekeeping on the Portal

Your cash ledger, credit ledger and liability register are reviewed regularly, not just at filing time. Excess balances are flagged for use or refund, and where a genuine slip surfaces, a voluntary payment through DRC-03 settles it before it can mature into a notice.

Complete Documentation, Properly Archived

Every acknowledgement, challan, computation sheet and filed return is saved and shared with you in an organised folder. When a bank, buyer or GST officer asks for a document from two years ago, it reaches you the same day without any scrambling.

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

Support in Tamil and English

GST is confusing enough without a language barrier. Our team explains notices, tax positions and filing requirements in plain Tamil or English, whichever you and your staff in Koyambedu are comfortable with, and keeps written communication simple and jargon-free.

QRMP Managed Properly, Not Just Opted Into

Quarterly filing still demands monthly attention — IFF uploads so your buyers see their credit on time, and tax payment through PMT-06 by the 25th for the first two months of each quarter. We run that monthly rhythm so QRMP saves you effort without creating gaps.

How It Works

Our Notice Reply Process

Notice study

We read the notice line by line, identify the section invoked, the periods covered, the exact information sought and the deadline for response.

Data reconciliation

The figures alleged in the notice are reconciled against your filed returns, GSTR-2B and books, so the reply is grounded in verifiable numbers rather than assertions.

Reply drafting

We draft a professional, point-wise reply addressing every allegation, attaching reconciliations, invoices and legal support, and share the draft with you for approval.

Filing and payment

The approved reply is filed on the portal within the deadline. Where a small genuine liability exists, we advise payment through DRC-03 to limit interest and penalty.

Closure tracking

We monitor the portal for the officer's response, attend to any further queries or hearing dates, and pursue the matter until a closure or order is received.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

Tax Paid Under the Right Head

Getting IGST versus CGST and SGST right at the invoice stage spares you the painful cycle of paying the correct head again and pursuing a refund of the amount paid under the wrong one.

Closure Without Loose Ends

When a business winds up, proper cancellation and a timely final return ensure the file is genuinely closed, so no demand or late-fee computation resurfaces against you long after the shutters came down.

Growth Without Compliance Anxiety

New branches, new product lines and interstate sales all carry GST consequences. With standing professional support, you expand knowing registrations, invoicing and returns will keep pace with the business.

Waiver Benefits Never Missed

Late-fee waivers and amnesty windows notified by the GST Council are applied to your history within their deadlines, capturing reliefs that most businesses only hear about once the window has already closed.

Books and Returns That Agree at Year End

Because turnover in your GST returns is kept aligned with your accounts through the year, income tax filing and statutory audit proceed without the GST-versus-books mismatch queries that now surface routinely through data matching.

Better Cash Flow Planning

You know your expected GST outflow days before the 20th, not on the night of filing. That advance visibility lets you plan payments, collections and bank balances instead of scrambling for funds at the deadline.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

AspectWith ChennaiGSTDIY / Unattended
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Late fees and interestFilings go in ahead of statutory dates, so the Rs.50-per-day late fee and 18 percent interest never arise.Late fees accumulate silently every delayed day, and interest on unpaid tax runs at 18 percent per annum.
Keeping up with changesRate changes, portal updates and new thresholds such as the Rs.5 crore e-invoice limit are tracked by us and applied to your case proactively.Changes are discovered after the fact — often through a rejected filing, a blocked e-way bill or a departmental letter.
Supplier defaultsSuppliers who stop uploading invoices are identified within the period and pursued before their default becomes your blocked credit.Missing supplier invoices surface only when credit is denied, by which time recovering the amount from the vendor is difficult.
Registration and amendmentsQuery-resistant applications prepared correctly the first time, with supporting documents matched to what proper officers actually verify.Repeated clarification memos and resubmissions, with weeks lost because a rent agreement or premises photograph did not meet expectations.

Circular

Food and drink sold at cinema counters is restaurant service at 5 per cent

Circular No. 201/13/2023-GST dated 01.08.2023 · 2023-08-01

Following the 50th GST Council meeting, CBIC clarified that supply of food and beverages at the snack counters of a cinema hall is taxable as restaurant service at 5 per cent without input tax credit, provided it is supplied independently of the cinema exhibition service. Where a ticket and food are clubbed into a single package, the transaction is a composite supply with exhibition as the principal supply and the ticket rate applies to the whole amount.

What it means for you: Chennai multiplex operators should keep counter sales separately invoiced from tickets, otherwise the entire combo value gets taxed at the higher exhibition rate.

Case Law

Delhi High Court orders refund of tax deposits extracted during search as involuntary

Vallabh Textiles v. Senior Intelligence Officer — Delhi High Court, 2022 · 2022-12-20

During a search that continued into the early hours, the taxpayer deposited substantial amounts through DRC-03, later claiming coercion. The Delhi High Court held that the deposits did not bear the hallmark of voluntary self-ascertainment under Section 74(5), noted the department's non-compliance with CBIC instructions barring recovery during search, and directed refund of the amounts with interest at 6 percent. The ruling strengthens the line of authority against collection of tax during investigation without adjudication.

What it means for you: Never let officers pressure you into on-the-spot DRC-03 payments during a search — payments made under coercion can be recovered back with interest through the courts.

GST Council

GST slashed on COVID medicines, oxygen equipment and ambulances until 30 September 2021

44th GST Council Meeting (video conferencing) — 12 June 2021 · 2021-06-12

Acting on a Group of Ministers report, the Council cut rates on COVID relief goods until 30 September 2021. Tocilizumab and Amphotericin B moved to nil, while Remdesivir and anti-coagulants such as heparin were reduced to 5 per cent. Medical grade oxygen, oxygen concentrators, ventilators, BiPAP machines, COVID testing kits and specified diagnostic kits all moved from 12 to 5 per cent. Pulse oximeters, hand sanitiser, temperature check equipment and crematorium furnaces moved to 5 per cent, and ambulances from 28 to 12 per cent.

How we apply it: These were temporary rates with a hard expiry, so suppliers must be able to show that concessional invoices fall inside the notified relief period.

Already Holding the Notice? Read It in About a Minute

Upload the PDF to our free GST Notice Analyser. It identifies which of 34 notice types you have, pulls out the DIN, GSTIN and tax period, reads the reply date printed on the notice and tells you plainly whether that date has already passed — along with the documents and reconciliations you will need. No payment, no account. If the notice does not state a date we can read, it says so rather than guessing one for you.

Analyse my notice — free WhatsApp it to a consultant

The analyser reports what your notice says and the statutory position for that form. It is not a substitute for a consultant reading your actual records, and a reply should be reviewed before you file it.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Can I get GST notice reply done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Koyambedu regularly complete notice reply with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
Which GST office handles Koyambedu businesses?
Businesses in Koyambedu (PIN 600107) generally fall under the CGST Chennai North Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
Can my GST consultant attend a summons hearing on my behalf in Koyambedu?
Generally no. A summons under Section 70 requires the person named in it to appear personally, because the officer records a statement on oath, and an authorised representative cannot substitute for you unless the officer specifically permits it. What a consultant can do is equally important: prepare a factual brief, reconcile your returns with books, compile the documents demanded, accompany you to the office where allowed, and file written submissions afterwards. Businesses in Koyambedu that walk into a summons unprepared often make admissions that harden into demands later, so invest time in preparation before the appearance date.
What is the general penalty under Section 125 and when is it imposed?
Section 125 is the residual penalty provision for contraventions of the Act or rules for which no separate penalty is prescribed anywhere else. It can extend to Rs.25,000 under the CGST Act, with a matching penalty under the SGST Act, so the practical exposure is up to Rs.50,000 per contravention. Officers invoke it for procedural lapses such as not displaying the registration certificate, minor documentation errors during transit, or failure to furnish information called for. Because the amount is discretionary, a reasoned reply showing the breach was technical and without revenue loss often brings the figure down substantially.
The department has provisionally attached my bank account under Section 83. What does that mean?
Section 83 empowers the Commissioner, where he records an opinion that protecting revenue requires it, to provisionally attach property including bank accounts during the pendency of specified proceedings, such as assessment, inspection or demand cases. The attachment order is issued in Form DRC-22 and a copy goes to your bank, which freezes debits. Crucially, the attachment automatically ceases to have effect after one year from the order, and it can be lifted earlier through Form DRC-23 if the Commissioner is satisfied. Courts insist the power is draconian and must be exercised with genuine, recorded reasons, which is a strong ground of challenge in suitable cases.
I got a show cause notice in REG-17 threatening cancellation of my GST registration. What should I do?
Form REG-17 is issued when the officer proposes to cancel your registration, commonly for continuous non-filing of returns, non-existence at the declared premises or wrongful ITC availment. You must reply in Form REG-18 within seven working days and attend the hearing if one is fixed. If the reply satisfies the officer, proceedings are dropped in REG-20; otherwise cancellation is ordered in REG-19. If cancellation happens, you can seek revocation in Form REG-21 within ninety days after filing all pending returns and paying dues. Because cancelled registrations freeze e-way bills and invoicing, treat a REG-17 in Koyambedu as urgent.
Is everyone facing GST prosecution eligible to apply for compounding?
No. The statute excludes several categories. A person who has already been allowed to compound once in respect of the specified serious offences cannot compound again. Persons accused of issuing invoices without any supply of goods or services, the classic fake billing offence, were excluded from compounding altogether by the Finance Act 2023, and anyone convicted by a court under the GST law is also barred. Notably, the same 2023 amendments removed the earlier bar on compounding where the conduct was also an offence under another law, so that ground no longer disqualifies an applicant. Eligibility should be assessed before paying the underlying dues, since payment is a precondition but not a guarantee of compounding.
What imprisonment terms does GST law prescribe, and which offences are non-bailable?
Section 132 links punishment to the amount involved: imprisonment up to five years with fine where the tax evaded or credit misused exceeds Rs.5 crore, up to three years where it exceeds Rs.2 crore, and up to one year for the Rs.1 crore to Rs.2 crore band, which after the Finance Act 2023 changes survives only for the offence of issuing invoices without supply. A repeat conviction can attract up to five years regardless of amount. Offences involving supply without invoice, invoices without supply, credit from such invoices, and collected-but-not-deposited tax are cognizable and non-bailable when the amount exceeds Rs.5 crore; everything else is non-cognizable and bailable. Courts take cognizance only with the Commissioner's previous sanction.
How do I reply to a DRC-01 show cause notice online?
The reply to a show cause notice summarised in DRC-01 is filed in Form DRC-06 on the GST portal. Log in, open View Additional Notices and Orders, select the case and use the reply option to upload your written submissions and supporting documents, and opt for a personal hearing. A good DRC-06 addresses each allegation separately, annexes reconciliations, invoices and ledgers, cites the relevant provisions and circulars, and raises limitation and jurisdiction objections where available. File within the time allowed in the notice. ChennaiGST drafts DRC-06 replies for Koyambedu businesses with a hearing strategy built in from the start.
I agree with part of the ASMT-10 discrepancy but not all of it. How do I respond?
A split response is perfectly acceptable and often the wisest course. Pay the portion you accept through Form DRC-03 with interest at 18 percent per annum, and in your ASMT-11 reply state the payment details along with a reasoned explanation for the balance, supported by reconciliations, invoices and ledger extracts. Paying the admitted amount voluntarily at the scrutiny stage avoids penalty on it under Section 73 and shows bona fides, which helps the officer accept your explanation on the disputed part. ChennaiGST prepares this admit-and-contest working for Koyambedu businesses so nothing is conceded unnecessarily; call +91 - 9600 606 444 to review your notice.
What happens if I do not reply to an ASMT-10 scrutiny notice?
If no satisfactory explanation is filed within thirty days, or you fail to correct the discrepancies, the officer can escalate the matter to a departmental audit under Section 65, a special audit under Section 66, an inspection under Section 67, or straightaway initiate a demand under Section 73 or Section 74. In practice, unanswered ASMT-10 notices convert into DRC-01A intimations and then show cause notices, where penalties and hearings enter the picture. Replying at the scrutiny stage is the cheapest point to close an issue, because you are only explaining, not yet defending a demand. Do not let the window lapse.
Something is malfunctioning on the GST portal. How do I raise a formal grievance ticket?
Use the GST Self-Service Grievance Redressal Portal at selfservice.gstsystem.in. Select Report Issue, type a keyword describing the problem, and the system suggests the matching category along with FAQs; if those do not resolve it, proceed to raise the ticket by entering your GSTIN or ARN, contact details and a description, and attach screenshots of the error. A ticket reference number is issued instantly by email and SMS. Raising a ticket also creates a record that the failure was on the system side, which helps later if a deadline was missed because of a portal outage. Our Koyambedu office logs tickets for clients as part of retainer support.
How is GST charged on hotel room tariffs after the rate changes?
Hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, a reduction from the earlier 12 percent. Rooms priced above Rs.7,500 per day attract 18 percent with full input tax credit. The rate is determined by the actual transaction value charged for the room, so seasonal discounts can change the applicable rate on the same room across bookings. Lodges and hotels around Koyambedu should configure billing software to test the per-day value on each invoice rather than fixing one rate for the property.
Can my GST registration be cancelled for not filing returns?
Yes. Under Rule 21A, the department can suspend a GSTIN where returns are not filed for a continuous period, and Section 29 permits cancellation where a regular taxpayer has not filed returns for six months (two quarters for QRMP, and a composition taxpayer defaulting on the annual return beyond three months). During suspension you cannot issue tax invoices or file returns, which freezes the business. If cancellation happens, revocation must be sought through REG-21 within 90 days after clearing all dues. If you have received a suspension notice in Koyambedu, call +91 - 9600 606 444 immediately.
What is the penalty for running a business without GST registration?
A taxable person who is liable to register but fails to do so faces a penalty of Rs.10,000 or the amount of tax evaded, whichever is higher, under Section 122 of the CGST Act. Beyond the penalty, the department can demand the tax for the entire unregistered period with interest at 18 percent per annum, and you cannot recover that tax from customers you billed without GST. Goods moved without registration and e-way bills, required for consignments above Rs.50,000, also risk detention. If your turnover has crossed the threshold, registering within thirty days is far cheaper than regularising later.
I am a composition dealer. Which returns apply to me and when?
Composition taxpayers do not file GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B. Instead, you pay tax every quarter through statement CMP-08, due by the 18th of the month following the quarter, and file one annual return, GSTR-4, by 30 June following the financial year. The scheme is available for turnover up to Rs.1.5 crore for goods, with a separate 6 percent scheme for service providers up to Rs.50 lakh. Missing CMP-08 for consecutive quarters can block your e-way bill facility. Our composition package covers all four CMP-08 filings and the annual GSTR-4 at Rs.2,999 per year.
We hire cabs monthly for employee transport in Koyambedu. Who pays the GST?
If the cab operator is not a body corporate, charges 5 percent, and your business is a body corporate, the liability shifts to you under reverse charge. The entry covers renting of motor vehicles designed to carry passengers where the cost of fuel is included in the consideration. If the operator is itself a company, or bills at the higher rate with full ITC, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, forward charge applies and the operator collects the tax. Remember that even after paying RCM, the ITC on employee transport in vehicles seating up to thirteen is blocked under Section 17(5) unless providing the transport is obligatory for the employer under a law.
What happened to the old 12 percent and 28 percent GST slabs?
Both slabs were abolished with effect from 22 September 2025. Nearly all goods that were at 12 percent moved down to 5 percent, and the bulk of the 28 percent items moved to 18 percent, with only a small set of luxury and demerit goods shifted up to the special 40 percent rate. This means old rate charts, printed price lists and software masters created before September 2025 are unreliable. Before quoting or billing, confirm the current rate against the CBIC rate notifications for your exact HSN code, or call +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will verify it for your product list.
What documents are required for GST notice reply in Koyambedu?
For GST notice reply you will generally need: Copy of the notice received, with its reference number and date, GST portal login credentials, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filed copies for the periods in question, GSTR-2A and GSTR-2B data for the relevant periods, Sales and purchase registers for the periods covered. The exact list depends on your constitution — proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company — and on the specifics of your case. Send what you have on WhatsApp to +91 - 9600 606 444 and we will confirm within the same working day exactly what else is needed, so nothing is rejected later for a missing paper.

Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete notice reply without leaving your counter.
