Trade Profile and GST Jurisdiction for Kamakshi Amman Koil Street, Mangadu

Mangadu's economy revolves around the Kamakshi Amman temple: flower and garland sellers, pooja article shops, silk saree and jewellery showrooms and sweet stalls crowd Sannathi Street and the Mangadu-Kundrathur Road, with new apartment projects towards Paraniputhur. Traders mixing exempt fresh flowers with taxable garlands, prasadam counters and gold savings schemes must split exempt and taxable turnover correctly in GSTR-1. Against that backdrop, GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing in Mangadu demands more than data entry — it needs reconciliation before filing, correct classification and awareness of what local officers examine. Our Chennai team provides exactly that to clients in Mangadu, Porur and Kundrathur, with same-day responses on working days and WhatsApp updates at every stage. Most routine engagements complete within one to two working days once documents are in hand.

GST jurisdiction for Mangadu (PIN 600122): businesses here generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate. We regularly represent clients from Mangadu before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and notice hearings, and can confirm your exact division and range from your GSTIN. State-jurisdiction cases are handled with the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department.
GST Compliance for Retail Shops in Mangadu
A retail counter bills hundreds of small consumer sales a day, and GST treats them very differently from B2B trade. B2C turnover goes into GSTR-1 as consolidated rate-wise figures, exempt goods need a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice, and a mixed basket of taxable and exempt stock forces proportionate credit reversal under Rule 42. Departments now compare UPI and card settlements against declared turnover, so daily sales must reconcile with bank inflows. A specialist sets up your billing software with a verified HSN and rate master, evaluates the one percent composition option against regular filing, and keeps declared figures consistent before any mismatch query arrives.
Yes, small businesses in Mangadu can use professional GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B Monthly Filing affordably — fees start at Rs.749, which is usually far less than one period of late fees and lost input tax credit.
Why Us

Why Kamakshi Amman Koil Street, Mangadu Businesses Choose ChennaiGST

Not a bulk-filing portal. A senior consultant knows your file, your jurisdiction and your deadlines.

Zero Tolerance for Late Fees and Interest

GSTR-3B late fees run at Rs.50 per day and interest at 18 percent per annum on unpaid tax. Our internal cut-offs sit days ahead of statutory due dates precisely so that our clients never hand the department a rupee they did not owe.

One Dedicated Point of Contact

You deal with one accountable person who knows your business, your turnover pattern and your filing history. No repeating your story to a new voice every month, and no file falling between two desks when a deadline is approaching.

Notice Support Does Not Stop at Filing

If a query, ASMT-10 scrutiny notice or DRC-01 arrives on a return we filed, we stand behind our work and help you draft the reply. You are not left alone with a departmental letter and a thirty-day clock ticking against you.

Notice-Proof Filing Discipline

Most GST notices trace back to mismatches between GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B. We reconcile these before filing, not after a notice arrives, so your returns are internally consistent and the most common triggers for ASMT-10 scrutiny simply never appear.

Extra Hands During Filing Windows

In the days before the 11th and the 20th, our team runs extended hours and a strict internal queue, so a client who sends data late in the window is still filed on time. Peak-season crush at our end never becomes a late fee at yours.

Fast, Clean Registrations and Amendments

New GSTIN applications, core field amendments through REG-14, additional places of business — we prepare complete, query-resistant applications the first time. Clean paperwork is the difference between smooth approval and weeks lost answering clarification memos from the department.

How It Works

Our Monthly Returns Process

Monthly data collection

At month end we remind you and collect sales invoices, purchase bills and credit notes in whatever format you maintain, including Excel, Tally exports or scanned copies.

GSTR-1 preparation and filing

We prepare invoice-wise outward supply details, validate GSTINs of your B2B customers, summarise B2C supplies and file GSTR-1 on the portal before the 11th.

ITC reconciliation with GSTR-2B

We download your auto-drafted GSTR-2B, match it against purchase records, and claim only eligible input tax credit so that mismatches do not trigger scrutiny notices later.

Tax computation and confirmation

We compute net tax payable after ITC set-off, share the working with you for approval, and generate the payment challan for any cash liability.

GSTR-3B filing and reporting

After your confirmation and tax payment, we file GSTR-3B before the 20th and send you both filed acknowledgements along with a one-page summary of the month.

Outcomes

What You Get

Practical outcomes our clients measure us by.

A Written Trail for Every Decision

Tax positions, rate choices and credit calls are documented as they are made, so if a question arises years later, the reasoning and evidence are on file rather than in someone's fading memory.

Due-Diligence Ready for Investors and Buyers

Funding rounds, partnerships and business sales all begin with a compliance check. A clean, documented GST history lets you clear that scrutiny quickly instead of watching a deal stall over old filing gaps.

Advances Treated Correctly

Advances received for services attract GST on receipt while advances for goods generally do not; applying this distinction correctly means you neither prepay tax unnecessarily nor omit a liability that surfaces later with interest.

No Money Idling in the Cash Ledger

Excess balances parked in the electronic cash ledger are identified during regular ledger reviews and either utilised against upcoming liability or claimed back as a refund, instead of sitting interest-free with the government.

Supplier Risk Caught Early

We spot suppliers who stop uploading invoices or filing returns and alert you before their default becomes your blocked credit, letting you recover amounts or switch vendors while the exposure is still small.

Reduced Dependence on One Employee

When GST knowledge lives inside a single staff member, their resignation becomes a compliance crisis. With our firm as the standing process, your filings continue uninterrupted regardless of internal staff changes.

Why a Specialist Matters

With ChennaiGST vs Doing It Yourself

Portal credentials and dataLogins handled by a small engaged team under strict confidentiality, with credentials stored securely and never passed onward.Passwords circulating on chats with freelancers and part-timers, and no accountability for who has accessed your business data.
Due-date trackingA maintained compliance calendar with internal cut-offs days before the 11th and the 20th; we chase you for data, not the other way around.Deadlines remembered from memory or phone alarms; one busy week and the return slips past the due date.
Goods in transitE-way bills generated correctly and matched to invoices, so consignments pass roadside inspections without detention or penalty.A defective or missing e-way bill can mean detention at a checkpoint, with penalties that dwarf the tax on the consignment.
Refund claimsRFD-01 filed with complete statements and annexures, tracked from ARN to bank credit, with any deficiency memo answered promptly.Incomplete claims bounce back as deficiency memos while the refund sits unclaimed for months and working capital stays blocked.
Record keepingEvery return, challan, acknowledgement and working paper archived in an organised folder, retrievable in minutes years later.Documents scattered across email, downloads and old phones; assembling records for a bank or an audit takes days.
Risk of noticesGSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B reconciled before filing, removing the mismatches that trigger most scrutiny notices.Inconsistent figures across returns quietly build a mismatch history that surfaces later as ASMT-10 scrutiny or a demand notice.

Case Law

Supreme Court bars customs recovery action during an insolvency moratorium

Sundaresh Bhatt, Liquidator of ABG Shipyard v. Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs — Supreme Court, (2023) 1 SCC 472, judgment dated 26-08-2022 · 2022-08-26

The Supreme Court held that once a moratorium is declared under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, the customs authorities can only assess and quantify their dues; they cannot initiate recovery, sell goods or enforce any lien over the debtor's assets. The Code prevails over the Customs Act to this extent. The authorities must submit their claim to the resolution professional or liquidator like any other creditor.

How we apply it: If a Chennai company is under moratorium, indirect tax officers may quantify dues but cannot attach property or auction goods to recover them.

Circular

Cloud kitchens taxed as restaurants, ice cream parlours are not

Circular No. 164/20/2021-GST dated 06.10.2021 · 2021-10-06

This circular settled several long-running food service disputes. It clarified that service by cloud kitchens and central kitchens is restaurant service attracting 5 per cent without input tax credit, while ice cream parlours that sell already manufactured ice cream without any element of cooking supply goods and attract the applicable goods rate with credit. It also clarified the treatment of coaching services supplied under a government scholarship scheme, overloading charges recovered at toll plazas, and services in relation to admission to amusement parks.

How we apply it: A Chennai cloud kitchen bills at 5 per cent without credit, but an ice cream parlour selling tubs and cones must charge the goods rate and can keep its credits.

GST Council

Millet flour preparations exempted or cut to 5 per cent; molasses reduced from 28 to 5 per cent

52nd GST Council Meeting, New Delhi — 7 October 2023 · 2023-10-07

The Council recommended nil GST on food preparation of millet flour in powder form containing at least 70 per cent millets by weight when sold loose, and 5 per cent when pre-packaged and labelled. GST on molasses was slashed from 28 per cent to 5 per cent to benefit sugarcane farmers and reduce cattle feed costs. The Council also clarified that job work services of converting barley into malt attract the concessional 5 per cent rate applicable to job work in relation to food products, and not 18 per cent.

What it means for you: Food processors and cattle-feed traders in Tamil Nadu gained significant input cost relief and needed to re-price millet-based products.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from practising GST consultants — based on the CGST Act, current CBIC notifications and day-to-day portal experience.

Which GST office handles Mangadu businesses?
Businesses in Mangadu (PIN 600122) generally fall under the CGST Chennai Outer Commissionerate, with state-jurisdiction cases handled by the Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Department. Your exact division and range can be confirmed from your GSTIN on the GST portal. We regularly appear before this jurisdiction for registrations, clarifications and hearings, so we know the local practice and documentation preferences.
Do you provide GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing for businesses on Kamakshi Amman Koil Street?
Yes. We serve businesses on and around Kamakshi Amman Koil Street in Mangadu — shops, offices, godowns and home-run businesses alike. Document pickup can be arranged at your premises, or you can send everything on WhatsApp and complete monthly returns without leaving your counter. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 and mention your location; a consultant will confirm the fee and timeline immediately.
My company has taken a residential flat on rent. Why is our accountant paying GST on it?
Because of a reverse charge entry effective 18 July 2022: renting of a residential dwelling to a registered person attracts 18 percent GST payable by the tenant under reverse charge, even when the landlord is unregistered. Renting to unregistered individuals for residence remains fully exempt. There is a carve-out from 1 January 2023: a proprietor renting a dwelling in his personal capacity for use as his own residence, on his own account and not for the business, is exempt. Companies and firms renting flats, including for guest houses, must therefore pay RCM monthly through GSTR-3B. We correct many such missed entries during our compliance health checks.
A client paid me an advance. Do I raise an invoice or something else?
On receiving an advance, you issue a receipt voucher under Rule 50, not an invoice; the tax invoice follows when the service is actually supplied. GST is payable on advances received for services in the period of receipt, and the receipt voucher documents that liability. Advances for the supply of goods are not taxed at receipt for normal taxpayers under Notification 66/2017. If the rate is not determinable when the advance arrives, tax is paid at 18 percent, and if the nature of supply is not determinable, it is treated as inter-state. Service firms in Mangadu with retainer billing should map this into their monthly cycle.
When can I issue a GST credit note against my sales invoice?
Section 34 permits a credit note where the taxable value or tax charged in the invoice exceeds what is actually payable, where the goods are returned by the recipient, or where the goods or services are found deficient. The credit note references the original invoice, and reporting it in your GSTR-1 reduces your output tax liability for that period. It is the correct tool for sales returns, rate errors and quality claims. What a credit note cannot do is cancel an e-invoice after the twenty-four hour IRP window or rewrite history for a different customer; it must trace to a genuine adjustment on an identified invoice.
Do I have to report HSN codes in my GSTR-1?
Yes. Taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.5 crore must report a 4-digit HSN summary for B2B supplies in Table 12 of GSTR-1, while those above Rs.5 crore must report 6-digit HSN codes for all supplies. The portal now validates HSN entries against its master list, so wrong or truncated codes can block filing. Getting HSN classification right also determines your tax rate, so it is worth a one-time review of your product list. Our team in Mangadu maintains a verified HSN master for every client.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B in Tamil Nadu?
For monthly filers, GSTR-3B is due on the 20th of the following month. If you are registered in Tamil Nadu and have opted for the QRMP scheme, your quarterly GSTR-3B is due on the 22nd of the month following the quarter. GSTR-3B is the summary return through which you actually pay tax, so missing it attracts a late fee of Rs.50 per day (Rs.20 for nil returns) plus interest at 18 percent per annum on tax paid late.
My SaaS startup in Mangadu bills both US and Indian customers. Is everything zero-rated?
No. Only the supplies satisfying the export conditions are zero-rated under your LUT. Subscriptions billed to customers located in India are ordinary taxable supplies at 18 percent, with the place of supply being the registered customer's location, or the address on record for unregistered users. Your GSTR-1 must therefore separate export invoices from domestic B2B and B2C supplies, and your accumulated ITC refund is computed only in proportion to export turnover. Many Mangadu SaaS founders wrongly treat all revenue as export because billing runs through one gateway; a revenue-wise mapping avoids demands later. Call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a review.
How do I claim credit of the IGST paid on imported goods?
IGST paid at customs on imported goods is fully creditable, with the bill of entry serving as the prescribed duty-paying document instead of a tax invoice. The data flows from ICEGATE into your GSTR-2B, and the claim is made in Table 4(A)(1) of GSTR-3B. If a bill of entry does not appear, use the search BoE facility on the GST portal to fetch the record before assuming it is missing. Remember that basic customs duty and the social welfare surcharge are never creditable; only the IGST and compensation cess components are. Importers in Mangadu should reconcile their ICEGATE ledger with GSTR-2B quarterly, because clearance-date mismatches are frequent.
Who has to file the GSTR-9 annual return?
GSTR-9 is the annual return for regular taxpayers, consolidating the outward supplies, input tax credit and tax paid reported through the year's GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filings. As per CBIC notifications, filing is optional for taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to Rs.2 crore for the relevant financial year, and mandatory above that. Composition taxpayers file GSTR-4 instead, and e-commerce operators collecting TCS under Section 52 file GSTR-9B. Even where optional, filing GSTR-9 is often advisable because it locks your annual position before any departmental scrutiny. We prepare GSTR-9 for businesses across Mangadu every year.
My supplier has not uploaded an invoice and it is missing from GSTR-2B. Can I still claim the ITC?
No, not until it appears. Since 1 January 2022, Section 16(2)(aa) permits ITC only on invoices furnished by the supplier in GSTR-1 and communicated to you in GSTR-2B; the earlier provisional credit tolerance is gone. Claiming credit on a missing invoice invites a Rule 88D intimation and reversal with interest at 18 percent. The practical remedy is vendor follow-up: withhold the tax portion of payment until the supplier uploads, and claim the credit in the month it appears in GSTR-2B, subject to the overall time limit of 30 November following the financial year. Vendor discipline clauses in purchase orders help enormously.
What GST do hotels charge on room tariffs after the 2025 rate changes?
From 22 September 2025, hotel accommodation with a value of supply up to Rs.7,500 per unit per day attracts 5 percent GST without input tax credit, and accommodation above Rs.7,500 attracts 18 percent with input tax credit. The earlier 12 percent slab for mid-range rooms was abolished in the rate rationalisation. Tax applies on the actual transaction value charged, so a discounted rate below Rs.7,500 falls in the 5 percent bracket even if the printed tariff is higher. Hotels should reconfigure billing software slab-wise and watch the ITC restriction on the 5 percent category, which changes costing materially.
What are the current GST rate slabs after the GST 2.0 changes?
From 22 September 2025, following the 56th GST Council meeting, India moved to a simplified two-slab structure: a merit rate of 5 percent and a standard rate of 18 percent. The earlier 12 percent and 28 percent slabs were abolished. A special 40 percent rate applies to a short list of luxury and demerit goods, while the concessional rates of 3 percent on gold and silver and 0.25 percent on rough diamonds continue. Businesses in Mangadu should re-verify the rate on every product they sell, because hundreds of items changed slabs on that date.
I buy electronics stock from distributors in other states. How does the IGST on purchases work for me?
Inter-state purchases carry IGST, which flows into your GSTR-2B once the distributor files GSTR-1, and it is fully available as input tax credit. When you sell locally in Tamil Nadu you charge CGST and SGST, and the law lets you use IGST credit against both, with the portal applying the set-off order automatically. There is no cost disadvantage in buying from out-of-state distributors, provided they are compliant filers; a distributor who files late delays your credit by a month. Track supplier filing discipline as part of vendor selection. Retailers in Mangadu can call +91 - 9600 606 444 for a supplier compliance scorecard.
We hire cabs monthly for employee transport in Mangadu. Who pays the GST?
If the cab operator is not a body corporate, charges 5 percent, and your business is a body corporate, the liability shifts to you under reverse charge. The entry covers renting of motor vehicles designed to carry passengers where the cost of fuel is included in the consideration. If the operator is itself a company, or bills at the higher rate with full ITC, 18 percent since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, forward charge applies and the operator collects the tax. Remember that even after paying RCM, the ITC on employee transport in vehicles seating up to thirteen is blocked under Section 17(5) unless providing the transport is obligatory for the employer under a law.
Are any goods exempt from GST when transported by a GTA?
Yes. Transport by a GTA of agricultural produce, milk, salt and foodgrains including flours and pulses, organic manure, newspapers and magazines registered with the Registrar of Newspapers, relief materials for victims of calamities, and defence or military equipment is exempt regardless of freight value. Note that the older exemptions for small consignments, Rs.1,500 for a full truckload and Rs.750 for a single consignee, were withdrawn with effect from 18 July 2022, so ordinary cargo enjoys no value-based relief now. Transporters serving agricultural markets should describe the produce accurately on the consignment note to support the exemption.
How do I round off tax amounts on a GST invoice?
Section 170 of the CGST Act prescribes normal rounding to the nearest rupee: where the tax contains a part of a rupee, fifty paise or more is rounded up to one rupee, and less than fifty paise is ignored. The rounding is applied to the tax amount on each invoice, separately for each tax head, so CGST and SGST are each rounded individually rather than rounding only the invoice total. Most billing software handles this automatically, but spreadsheets and manual bills often round the grand total instead, creating one-rupee mismatches that clutter reconciliations across thousands of invoices.
Our company paid fees to a lawyer. Who pays the GST on this?
You do, as the recipient. Legal services supplied by an individual advocate, a firm of advocates or a senior advocate to a business entity are notified under Section 9(3), so the advocate does not charge GST and your business pays 18 percent under reverse charge in cash through GSTR-3B, claiming it back as ITC if otherwise eligible. Relief exists for small recipients: legal services to a business entity whose turnover is within the registration threshold are exempt. Since the advocate is usually unregistered, remember to raise a self-invoice and payment voucher for the transaction. Litigation-heavy businesses in Mangadu should reconcile their legal expense ledger against RCM paid every quarter.
Are there any hidden charges for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing?
No. The fee quoted before we start is the fee you pay. Government fees, portal charges or statutory late fees, where they apply, are separate and disclosed to you in advance with the exact amount. We issue a proper GST invoice for our professional fee. If the scope of work changes — for example, an unexpected notice or additional periods — we tell you the revised fee before doing anything further.
Can I get GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing done online without visiting the office?
Yes, the entire process can be handled online. You share scanned documents on WhatsApp or email, we prepare and file everything on the GST portal, and you receive the acknowledgement and filed copies digitally. Businesses in Mangadu regularly complete monthly returns with us without a single office visit. If a physical verification or personal hearing is required by the department, we guide you through it.
How much does GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing cost in Mangadu?
Our fee for GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B monthly filing in Mangadu starts at Rs.749/month and is quoted in full before we begin — there are no hidden charges added later. The fee covers professional work end to end: document review, preparation, filing and follow-up until completion. Government fees or portal charges, where applicable, are separate and always shown to you upfront. For an exact quote based on your turnover and business type, call +91 - 9600 606 444 and a consultant will confirm it on the call.
